I can't upgrade to Windows 11, it used to show me that message that says "Upgrade to Windows 11 is ready-and it's free". I also noticed that the background of the message flickered a bit when I move my mouse. When I click on the button and agreed the agreement, the message disappears it shows "upgrade to windows 11 downloading 0%" for a split second. And then it showed the "Upgrade to Windows 11 is ready-and it's free" message again. When I looked at the update history it says the error code is 0x80246017. I've tried running the update troubleshooter and started the bits service but that didn't help. After clicking on the download and install button a few times, the message disappears and gets replaced by the "This pc can run Windows 11 message".
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Also, do I need to update my drivers (such as graphics drivers) to Windows 11 versions before updating?

Thank you for the reply.
I can't do a clean install because I need to keep my files. I don't have a drive that is large enough to backup my files though.
For ANY major change, software or hardware, you NEED a good backup.
What if things go wrong in the process?

In actual fact, anytime you turn the system ON you need a backup. And know how to recover it.

Hello!

Everytime you upgrade your operating system, the best way to do it is by doing a clean install.

So, my advice for you would be to backup your data, then download the Windows 11 ISO image, put it on a USB flash drive and do a clean install.

<Warning>
Before proceeding, please make sure that your motherboard’s settings are compatible with Win11 and ready for it:
•CSM: disabled.
•Secure Boot: enabled.
•Intel PTT: enabled (if it’s an Intel motherboard).

I hope these help...

I am planning to reuse a hdd and put it in a drive enclosure to back things up.

Do you think this method is good?

If the HDD is being disconnected from the PC, and you only connect it while doing backups, then YES, it’s a good backup method.

The point of a backup is to have it stored somewhere else. So that if something bad happens with your PC, that won’t affect your backup medium too. So, you’ll be able to recover the lost files.
