I've always had the built-in Realtek NIC in my ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard and 1 extra PCI D-Link NIC. I never had a problem running both together as i need a 2nd ethernet port to provide my PS4 with cable VPN internet.

One of the windows updates just screwed this up, for some reason only the built-in NIC works now and the D-Link one is giving me:

C++:
"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. (Code 12)"

I've tried to reinstall it and update the driver countless times but it still does not work, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
it might be a lil tricky
open device manager, show hidden devices, remove all "motherboard resources" ... and all "PCI-to-PCI bridge". remove everyone of them
reboot

If it still occurs, try removing "PCI Bus" and reboot again

Yes i am using the latest BIOS available on ASUS website. Repair install for what? i did a full windows reset and i am still having the same issue, tried to uninstall the drivers completely as well and still the same issue.

Thanks.

64bit adress space (>4GB):

if your bios doesnt support 64bit, and u hit 4GB limit with hardware resources, then u will need to disable athing or two in bios to save some space (remove unnucesary usb ports, integrated audio, whatever u dont use)

I will have to check this when i get home, but i don't remember adding anything new really but it's worth checking as it's one thing i haven't checked.

At most I have 1 Bluetooth Dongle, 1 USB Mouse, 1 PS/2 Keyboard, DS4 Controllers connected via bluetooth dongle, and 2 network adapters, 3.5mm Headphones.

The only virtual hardware i have are tap adapters for the VPN i guess but i always had everything working without any problems. I will have to search around in the BIOS when i get back to see if there is anything about address space i can change.

I couldn't find anything in the BIOS but after exiting bios and starting my PC the adapter was working fine, however my tap adapter had stopped working and my VPNs didn't work so i had to uninstall my d-link and restart my PC and now my VPN is working again and my network adapter is back to being unable to find resources.

So i guess the problem is clear now i just don't know how to fix it? here is a screenshot of my device manager

Disabled it and still getting the same

EDIT: i still see High precision event timer under memory even though i disabled it from BIOS, is that normal?

EDIT2: Disabled it from device manager as well but still the same problem exists.

I removed all motherboard resources yesterday night and restarted my PC and it didn't work, i woke up this morning and started my PC and it seems to be working now (VPN TAP adapter working well too) so that seems to have done the trick for now. I'll keep monitoring it for the next few days and see if it will keep working or get screwed again and if that happens i'll try changing bios version and removing PCI Bus.

Thanks for all the help!
