Hi.

I recently purchased a Gigabyte G1 gaming nvidea GTX 970 but I am having trouble powering it. The card has one 8 pin slot and one 6 pin slot.

The PSU I have is the PlexGear PS 500 (500 watts) which only has 2x6 pin PCI express wires and one 4 pin molex (after doing all the other wiring).

My question is would it work if I plugged in these two PCI-e wires into the card and left the two left most pin slots unused or do I have to buy some sort of extension or even an entirely new PSU?

I am running on an intel i5 processor and 1x8gb RAM module.

I'm not familiar with that PSU. Euro?
But it is probably not designed to safely run a card that requires more pins than the PSU provides. Technically, you should be able to just use 6pins of the 8 pin header. The card will see that the header is populated and allow it to turn on. But I'd at the very least use a 6pin to 8 pin adapter so as not to overload the card's 6 usable pins. http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/StarTech.com-PCI-Express-6-pin-to-8-pin-Power-Adapter-Cable-power-cable/1678493.aspx?cm_cat=GoogleBase&cm_ite=1678493&cm_pla=NA-NA-STP_CA&cm_ven=ShoppingFeeds&ef_id=VX3BZQAABZl90qhN:20150618021912:s&gclid=CP2pnfeWmMYCFcE2aQodrJwAqA
