Can't use Virtual Memory on Win 7 (Installed on EHD)

I have installed Windows 7 64-bit on my External Hard Drive (for my laptop as the Hard Drive broke a month ago), and for some reason I can no longer use Virtual Memory on anything. I would appreciate no answers like "Just buy a new Hard Drive."

Windows Setup won't let you install Windows on to an external hard drive so how did you manage to do it?
