Hi,
I return to this site because I always get helpful answers.
Some time ago, a student gave me his PC because he was returning t China. It had a chinese OS, which I erased and replaced with Windows 7.
I find that I can play video DVDs etc from the CD casette but cannot record. I have not installed any extra software for the DVD writer. When I look at the unit it has "LITE-ON CORP, Model SOHC-5236K" labelled on it. I have keyed this into Google and arrived at the LIT-ON website, but no useful info is available.
When I go to device manager, I see more or less the same info as above, plus "This device is working properly".
My question is: do I need to install extra software to enable me to write to CD/DVD with this device, and where can I get it from, preferably FOC?
Many thanks for reading this question.

that link to a lot of sights that sell pc parts and there prices.
the link i gave you was just an info link for what your looking for if you need to burn dvd. the newest burners are blueray units that are 40-100. they do 9g max per disk. dvd max out at 4g.
