Question Capping games at 60fps feels choppy?

When ever I play games I have to cap them at 144 fps or higher to get my game to look smooth, and if my game only runs at 70-80 fps then it looks choppy, I go to cap it at 60 fps and then It feels and looks very laggy, anyone know a fix to this?

I use the fps capper in game, and some games they auto cap at 60 which just lags hard for me.

Spec:
i5 7500
8gb ram
1tb hdd
gtx 1060 6gb

By lag, do you mean it is actually getting choppy, or do you mean it is too low for you? Either way, you might want to use RivaTuner to cap your FPS rather than what you are now. Check out MSI Afterburner (it's free), as this comes with the RivaTuner program. According to this post over at Reddit, using RivaTuner actually results in less stutter.
