Capture card that I can play in 1440p, but records in 1080p?

Hi guys. I have recently become a fledgling streamer. I also don't want to deal with the performance loss and huge file sizes from fraps for when I make videos for my youtube account. Gaming at 1440p with just a 7970 is hard enough to get a constant 60 fps, and fraps makes it worse.

I want to get a capture card to solve these two problems, but I am not sure if there is a way that both allows me to continue to play in 1440p, but records in 1080p with no fps loss from recording?

I'll give you some info. HDMI cannot display 1440p, you need a dual link DVI cable. I run DVI to my 1440p monitor, and since my monitor has no speakers, I run an audio cable from my Logitech speakers to my sound card. That's a complicated setup for a capture card, I have no idea how I would even set it up.

For most capture card users I think it's hdmi from your gpu to the capture card, then hdmi to your monitor. But I can't do that since I need DVI going from my gpu to my monitor, and my video and audio outputs come from two separate hardware components.

With my current setup, is there a capture card and a method that will allow me to game in 1440p resolution and still get audio from my sound card (and not onboard audio), while the capture card gets both audio and video and records or streams in 1080p? With no lag on my system?

I know that's a lot to ask for, so I'll compromise where I can. But if you guys have any ideas or advice I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know. Thank you so much!

Only way is either recording at 1080p and upscaling to 1440p (pointless, like upscaling SD video to HD - it won't look any better, and could look worse. You're trying to create data out of nothing), or find a capture card that can take DL-DVI (recording at 1440p)(probably quite rare).

Why would you want 1440p signal out in the first place? Most people can't even view that high resolution content.

You misunderstand. I want to play at 1440p (1440p resolution on my 1440p screen) while simultaneously record or stream at 1080p (so other people will see only 1080p on their screens). I don't want to record 1440p, it's like you said. But I do want to keep enjoying 1440p gaming, even when I'm recording or streaming.

Ah. I thought that by "play" you meant play the recordings. Too many people with bad English, missed the one who can actually form a reasonable sentence.

Maybe you can convince your display drivers to mirror screens with one at 1080p and one at 1440p - might work. Not sure as to whether it would have to do extra rendering work though. Or see if you can find a box that will downscale to 1080p. Or just go with smoother gameplay and run at 1080p, but with a nice stable 60Hz/Ultra details.
