Odd question, but seems that at one time they started to make card stereo decks with SD card slots in them, then almost immediately quit making them. Now, it's low-en or no-name brand units that seem to have them only.

Anyone know of something like a Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, Blaupunkt, that has an SD Memory Card slot in them?

Other off-brands like BOSS, Pyle, Beat, etc, price is always good... reviews are all over the place.

I don't need a CD player, looking for single height, and available in North America (Kenwood had a few models in the UK only that, if shipped here, after exchange and such was super pricey).

I have 0 interest in hooking up a phone to my deck, or having bluetooth on etc. Most of the time I don't even have my cell with me. I'd rather grab an 8GB SD Card, fill it up, put it in and maybe update it once a year. 😀

you can buy a normal stereo for your car with a usb port, then buy one of these

that or stop using sd cards, just move the information to usb devices, i think those will live alot longer, at least the port will survive some more years, sd on the other side only lives as microsd on smartphones and that is not guaranteed

Funny you posted that because a few hours after I posted here, I had that same idea and have the exact same USB in my wishlist. 😀

Guess next question is, will something like a SONY (I'm a fanboy) work with a regular USB stick. I assume some brands/models will and others may require a powered source like an iPod/Cell phone.

Likely I'll pay the extra and get another Sony... mine is old, but such a great unit, but the skip forward button finally went on it. That said, there are a lot of nice looking 'lesser' brands out there like BOSS but, decent information for those is harder to find. Those especially I wonder if can handle a non-powered USB source for files.

Both SD-cards and USB memory sticks function as file sources for your radio - a place where to pull MP3 files from. This has nothing to do with "powered" sources.

The only thing you will have to worry about the USB specs is what audio formats it supports. Most (all?) units will support MP3. Some units might support higher-quality media files like FLAC or WMA.

Some units provide integration for "smart" devices like iPhones / Androids, where they can pull eg Pandora / Spotify stream over the USB connection, or control the playback / song selection. But most people just use Bluetooth connection for that.
