Found this article, Pretty interesting stuff. As long as they can make it cheap enough I don't see why they couldn't use this to completely replace copper in all wiring systems even computers. Although personally I would love to see diamond based circuits since they transfer heat almost instantaneously, but I doubt they will get those down to a cheap enough level manufacturing wise.

They're gonna have to because copper will run out in a few decades, after which mining will shift from mines to garbage dumps and prices will skyrocket. I'm surprised you never hear that on the news, instead of all the fake scare stories they could do a real one about copper shortages.

Yeah recycling can make a difference here (hence the garbage dump mining I mentioned), but recycling is for leftist, socialist treehuggers and requires the evil government to pass regulations...

The cheapest way to recycle metals from garbage is to burn the garbage until only metals and ash is left. So let's do it, right?

WRONG: the aforementioned process is devastating to the environment and public health. So the government has to pass regulations to force recycling companies to use more expensive but less devastating methods. Also, this assumes garbage containing precious metals is currently being stored (not diluted) and its location registered, this also requires government regulation because doing things properly is not the most profitable way and therefore garbage companies won't do it unless they are forced to.

But we can fit large electrostatic precipatators and other clean methods for minimising toxic material being released.

Higher temperature furnaces are more efficient ... perhaps high energy solar furnaces placed in the desert areas ... remembers some James Bond movie ??

Also, sorting is an important part of the process ...

Recycling would be alot easier if the jerks at the trash collection companies didn't chare me to recycle in the first place. Where is my incentive to take my time and sort stuff into bins and then pay them money so they can make money recycling.

Last time I checked I was doing them a favor. I do bring all of my cardboard to work for recycling as we have a dumpster for it.

The same happens for electronics. Bring your systems in and we will recycle. You pay us and everything is happy. Not really. In order to recover copper and other metals I'll drop my stuff off and you recycle it or else it goes in the trash.
