Down under Labour pollies (read Democrats for you in the US) are preparing a new carbon tax scheme and trying to sell it to the masses ... it doesn't seem to be going well.

Not surprising since the world economy is going badly .. .what with the Greeks ... Republicans ... and all of those wars.

We are pretty well taxed to death here ...

I never liked the phrase "Carbon Tax" Im made of 18 % carbon for Zod's sake.

Why not have an emissions tax?

Er .. I tink that was the previous iteration ... it sunk the last guy ... she screwed him like a pooch ... now she is trying to sell it but in a different koolaid flavour.

We Aussies are an uncomplicated lot.

I am ok with carbon tax because it doesn't seem to affect my family (income lower than the threshold of $80000 and gets full rebate). At least the tax, we know quite a bit of that money will be used for environmental and alternative energy research

What I still hates is the GST. It is just there to raise government revenue. I am still against it even after (11?) years of its implementation.

Carbon tax will cost me dearly as I am way over the threshhold.

hint ... I think oldmangamer would be surprised that I am one of those who should be a republican ... instead of a Unionist / Democrat type.

Alas I know what it is like to grow up poor ... and I would like to see anyone afforded the opportunties that I have had (cheap access to a decent education) ... provided they do not squander it.
