I got a monitor from a reuse shop that was working and in great condition and took a DVI or VGA (came with the cable). When I brought it home and connected it to my computer, it only showed up on the VGA monitor. I figured it needed to be on Display port (I don't have a converter at the moment) so I just turned off my computer, unplugged the VGA monitor and turned it back on, however the new one still didn't display anything even though it was the only monitor plugged in. I think I'm doing something wrong.
My video card is a HIS Radeon HD 6850.

My VGA monitor had been on DVI-I and it was the only one working, so I unplugged it to see if the new monitor would work if it were by itself. The new one did not work on the DVI-D port or the DVI-I port. I know the monitor takes input because he tested it on a computer he had at the shop, he even showed it working to me.
