Cards in mixed slots

I'm planning to install two r9 270x's in a tower. But the tower has one pci 2 slot and one pci 2x16 slot. Will the cards work even though the slots in the tower are different?

How do I select a computer that I know will support crossfire?

the motherboard is a ASROCK H81-HDS

after looking at the motherboard the answer is no it will not work , you only have one x16 pcie slot
you cannot fit the r9 270x designed for a PCIE x16 slot into a PCIEx1 slot
also your board with a single PCIEx16 slot does not support crossfire
if you want to get a second r9 270x you will have to get a different motherboard with 2 PCIE x16 slots that supports crossfire
