Question CAROTE Virus

Hello,
my brother downloaded some apps or something and he picked some kind of a virus. While i am in another country i managed to remove the Virus via TeamViewer with some programs.
The only thing that is left are the .docx files. They are now corrupted and i cant find a way to solve it. These files are important. They are now:
Type of File: CAROTE File (carote)

Unfortunately, there is no easy way of doing so, and without risks involved.
It's the nature of Ransomware, and often why the best defense is a proactive one, with a reputable AV that covers Randomsware.

It's not that the files are corrupted, they are encrypted.

This is one of several reasons why important files should be backed up to external/removable media before disaster strikes, as well as keeping a full system backup in case the Windows falls over or the HDD fails.
