Carpet in computer room?

My computer room unfortunately is carpeted. My PC sits on top of an 1800mm desk and under my chair is a chair mat. I am conscious of dust and static electricity and regularly dust and vacuum (PC fully unplugged). When I need to go inside the PC case while it is on the desk I make sure to in bare feet and discharge myself on the PC. I've recently brought an UPS (just yesterday actually) and with it sitting on the floor it seems to be gathering dust quite easily. I am thinking of putting an anti static mat underneath it and at least some tile until I can get one. I think my main concern is that now I have gone to the trouble of purchasing an expensive UPS to protect my gear are there any other precautions I should take with having this all setup in a carpeted room? Is my gear at risk to static when just generally sitting at using the computer? I realise a hardwood floor is more ideal.

Edit: With the UPS being the electrical hub I suppose I really want this isolated from the carpet as much as possible?

Static electricity is not a risk when your systems are closed - the case of either a desktop or laptop (or UPS for that matter) will protect the internals just fine. It's only when you open it up and handle the hardware directly that static electricity can do any harm.
Just get something like this for your UPS for about $20 at Amazon.

For the record, I live in a small apartment and both computer (currently running) are in a carpeted room. If I need to do a quick fix on one, I'll go ahead and just do it on the carpeting, being VERY mindful to ground myself before reaching inside the PC. It's a good habit to get into anyway. Never had any issues working like that, but if I had to do a complete overhaul on a PC, I take it to an uncarpeted area (my dining room) and work there.

Thanks for the answers. I like the look of that spacey gizmo Wolfshadw.

Thanks Sakkura, that's reassuring.

Anything on the floor is probably going to be more prone to dust especially on carpet, I have the CyperPower cp1500pfclcd, it has what looks like breathing grills on the sides but I am not sure. The only time air might be drawn inside the UPS it when it is on battery power. The casing looks very protective so static in that case shouldn't be much of an issue. I will just get my Datavac out and blow it down from time to time. 😉 I think elevating off of the floor would still be a good idea.
