Now I know that cas 2 memory waits 2 cycles and cas 3 waits 3 cycles to give data but is there really a noticable difference while using the computer or playing games.

On average, say, maybe 10%.

cas 2/CL2 provides an average 2 to 3% increase in performance over cas 3/CL3 memory.

Much more than that depending on which program you are talking about.

yes on my Thunderbird 700 running PC133 ram CAS3 Internet Explorer opens slower than on my Pentium 3 450 with CAS2 PC100 ram. Thats the only program I've noticed it in because thats the program I've opened the most on both computers. In sandra the Thunderbird scores considerably higher, and I get MUCH better gaming performance, but it just seems like Internet Explorer opens faster on the other computer.

If you have a T'Bird which is severely bottlenecked by RAM you'll see a big friggin difference (20-40%). If you're running a PIII don't waste your time.

"on my Thunderbird 700 running PC133 ram CAS3 Internet Explorer opens slower than on my Pentium 3 450 with CAS2 PC100 ram"

133MHz SDRAM has some latency issues compared to 100MHz SDRAM (SDR or DDR.) Due to problems with the timing, the 133MHz memory actually has 5ns higher latency than its 100MHz counterpart. The total CAS2 SDRAM system latency is 90ns for 100MHz SDR, 95ns for 133MHz SDR, 80ns for 100MHz DDR (equivolent of 200MHz - PC1600) and 85ns for 133MHz DDR (equivolent of 266MHz - PC2100.) For CAS3 add 10ns to all scores.

Yes, I do know that cas 2 is faster than cas 3, but my question is, does it actually show a noticable difference when using the computer. Like do games play smother or run faster. Of couse it will score higher on a memory benchmark.

That depends entirely on what applications you are running. In general memory accesses will be quicker to complete. The more data your app uses from memory, the more you will notice the difference.

I doubt it. CL3 should suffice for what your doing. If you were running SQL Server or something then maybe it's worth the money.
