Hello,

So I've been looking at basic DDR3 1600 RAM, and noticed CAS latency. 9 seemed to be the average, with cheaper ones at 11 and slightly more expensive at 8. I decided to look it up, and found pages like these:
http://www.memorysuppliers.com/caslatwhatis1.html

Here, they're talking about CAS-3 being basic and CAS-2 being the step up. :( Er... I couldn't even find any mainstream RAM with a latency under 8. Did I Google what I meant to? :pt1cable:

The format's like this: 9-9-9-24 (not sure about the last number. Also, you already know the format). In the CAS Latency article, it only referred to CAS-2 and CAS-3 in those formats, not the x-x-x-zy.

I'm confused.... Out of everything, I get confused on the RAM. That's me! :hello:

Thanks!

Did you read the Wiki page?

Cas 2 and cas 3 are orignal DDR timings. The fastest DDR3 1600 I have seen is cas 6 and that's rare. I have cas 7 DDR3 1600.

It really depends on what you are building as to the memory that's best suited for the build. 1.5v DDR3 1600 cas 9 is overall the best "bang for your buck".

Oh.... woops. Sorry. I forgot to disable this filter I have. It's actually pretty useful (and off-topic)... it doesn't show webpages that are editable by the community... I was doing research for a school project.

Thanks! :)
