Case "back plate"...how do you remove the little gates?

Ok so, you know the back of the case, for example, where the graphics card sticks out, errr, where the plug connector sticks out, there are all these little 'gates', probably 5 or so, they are metal, 1 is removed, and in its place, is the one end of the graphics card....SO my question is, how do i remove those little plates? the reason is, i want to open up the one or 2 below my graphics card, so the hot air being blown down, has somewhere to go (since my GPU overheats constantly (with no overclocking))


the plates are loose, and i dont see any screws....i guess i can take a picture if i did not explain it well enough.

yes those... from the inside i assume?

mine seem to be 'hooked' on one side, but i am a noob, so ill look again, didn't wanna push them IN too hard, because the one edge of them inside would clip the edge of the MOBO.

Yeah, grab the part where it bends into a right angle and pull.
In some cases there might be a retention bracket on the top, take a pic if you could.

You need to unscrew the screw on the vertical bar on the outside of the case, push it to the right and the L-shaoed metal bracket should come off.

After that it should be loose enough to take out. As long as you screw the bar back on you'll be fine.

ok thanks! for help, and the baby thing, heh....its a dell XPS btw...as u can see, the GPU is basically 2" from the bottom, and during gaming, it runs @ 110*C....when it hits 111* it crashes....so i HAVE to figure out why its so hot...maybe just a faulty card. idk, have had it 18 months about.

That is clearly a micro ATX case for lower end systems, while the Dell XPS is meant to be a high-end premium machine, so it sorta doesn't fit with the whole brand image. Oh well.

The single-slot 4850s are known to overheat, just set a custom fan profile following the instructions from the link above and your temps should drop significantly.

heh...would totally do it...but unfortunately i have never been able to open CCC. i used to get an error while attempting to open...and now, when i try to open, the mouse has a little sircle spin around it(like the cpu is working or busy), you can hear the cpu actually spin up then it stops right away and nothing happens.

not bring able to open ccc isnt a good thing, try uninstalling with drivercleaner (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/), then reinstall the newest Catalyst 10.7.

still no luck...i uninstalled everything. rebooted in safe mode. ran driversweeper, then rebooted, dl'd and installed the 10.7, and then rebooted again for the last time...still the same problem.

my honest opinion, switch to an nvidia card, you can get a 9500gt on ebay brand new for around 50 dollars.
great card, hasnt given me any headaches...pretty sexy too. ATI cards, as great as they can be typically have lots of software issues, the notion of CCC is great, but in practice it's a junky piece of software.

So instead of trying to get it working you want him to downgrade his card? That's ridiculous. He'd be better off spending the money on a new case, like an Antec 300 for that $50. But theres no reason a couple fans stuck in there and a fix for his card should be enough to get this working.
