Case fan Lighting

how do I turn the light in my case fan off and still keep it runing? (Which wire would i have to put a switch on?) Or can I do this? I know I can buy cases with this switch how do I do this to my LED fans?

As far as I know, you can't. Why do you want to?

depends if the LEDs are in parallel of series with the fan.

If in parallel, just the wire going to the LEDs and put a switch in

If in series, you will need to run a wire from one end of the run of LEDs to the other and put a switch in between them from there. You will potentially need to add a resistor too to make sure the electricity doesn't just go through the LEDs (path of least resistance.

It's probably much more trouble than it's worth!

You can just buy replacement case fans, they arent expensive, you can get name brand 120mm fans for under 10 bucks a piece.

I imagine any case with a switch isnt to the fans themselves but to a cathode ray tube, i know those have switches to turn on and off.

Like others have said why would you want to? you either want it to glow or you dont. if you dont, replace the fans with ones that dont have LED's if you do leave em in.

I have a small child and want to leave comp on at night but turn lights off when she's on her way to sleep. So I can buy fans with switchable LED's? I just bought a new case fan with LED's for $10 it's a three pin there are only three lines coming out of it I know what the three lines are for. so this is not the right type or do I have to open the fan to see how their wired inside? the Sniper and Scout case's both have this switch built in, Do they have a switchable light line on the fans that come with the case?

There's your answer then! I wasn't sure how they would manage it with a standard fan...without some heavy modding 😉

yeah i have the scout, and only the fans supplied can have their LED's turned off... if you need a replacement, good luck finding one with the proper connections that can turn off the lights.. these fans also have very low CFM

Im not sure about switchable LED fans. A sure fire way to
have case lighting that is switchable is with a cathode ray tube. I have a red one in my box, it came with velcro/adhesiver contacts that are very strong, should be easy to find a spot to put them in your case. it has a switch mountable to the rear of the case in a pci slot, so you can turn it on and off. The light it emits is way more vibrant and bright than anything you will get out of an LED fan. so in this case you can pick up one of those, and replace your fans with non-LED fans, and have a solution.
