Probably a weird/stupid question but how many case fans can the msi x99s gaming 9 ack support?

Also is there a limit to the amount of fan controllers (NZXT Sentry Mix 2) i can have

I'm getting a Thermal Take core x9 if you guys were wondering

any questions let me know

cheers

Solution

i use a swiftech pwm splitter--had absolutely no problem with it and i am running 2 pumps and 6 fans on it

for 3 pin fans phanteks does a similar thing

you could get cheaper splitters i guess--but the swiftech one wasnt that expensive and i was confident in its ability to do the job

Probably only limited to amount on fan headers on board, which are usually rated for 1A total power each. The NZXT fan controllers are ran from the power supply. You should be able to connect as many fans to them as you want. What kind of crazy build are you planning?

Uhh.. well I'm using the x9 because it has up to 24 case fans (insane i know) i'd like to use 18(ish) but i mean probably don't need that much, but hey it'd look cool

Build not sure if good

quick question though
is it possible to just connect the fans to the fan controller than have a couple of fan controllers, is that possible or am i just mentally deficient

Anyway thanks

Sorry, I'm not familiar with fan splitters.
What do they do and how do they work?

the nzxt sentry mix 2 will run 18 fans if you use splitters

Huh... not bad at all

You are limited but the headers on the motherboard or for the channels in the fan controller if you buy one. If you want use splitters, keep in mind that fan controller will work with a charge that isn't designed for.

Plus, I would go with a 1200w+ PSU for that rig.

Cheers mate, will change to 1200w (or more)

Sorry but what do you mean by 'that fan controller will work with a charge that isn't designed for'? do you mean it can handle a higher charge or...

last question,

can i use more than 1 fan controller at a time?
as in 2 separate controllers or is there not a second connection on the motherboard

sorry i don't know a lot about motherboard connections etc.

only thing with the the nzxt sentry mix 2 is you cant go below 40%

but any fan should be near silent at 40%

havent done the maths

but that fan controller says 30w per channel 6 channels

180w total

if you want to work it out more precisely

use ohms law if you know which fans you will use

you can use as many fan controllers as you like--they are normally psu powered

Thank you
I know i said last question but... does it matter which splitter i get
e.g. reliability and that sort of thing?

Solution

I'd rather spend a bit more for quality with a brand i know with feed back from people who have the product

Cheers
