Hey Guys,

I upgraded a few things this weekend and now my overall build is really loud!

I upgraded my case from an NZXT Source 210 to an NZXT s340. I upgraded my stock CPU cooler on my 4690k to the Cryorig h7.

I have two intake fans at the front of the case and have two sp120 fans exhausting at the Top and Rear of my case.

All the fans are plugged directly into the PSU except for the CPU fan which is plugged into the motherboard.

I turned the PC on and its significantly louder than my old set up. I'm curious to know if my fans are all running at 100% because they are connected directly to the PSU? Would plugging them into the MoBo help?

Is there any good fan controlling software that's free and easy to use? Do i need a fan controller??

Anything helps, and thanks so much for reading through this!

Solution
You should plug the fans into your motherboard as any fans plugged into the PSU will run at 100% all the time. Some motherboards can control normal 3 pin fans through voltage.

Now if you do this and its still not to your liking a fan controller can allow you to lower the speeds more for lower sound. I wouldn't do that until you try the motherboard first.

Plugging them into the PSU will make them go at full speed I believe. And yes plugging them into the MOBO would help. I do not personally know what program to use to control them as i use my asus MOBO's software for that.

Yes, connecting them directly to a PSU cable will power them at 100%, all the time. Connecting them to the motherboard, you may be able to control them from your bios if it has that feature. You could also use a utility like speedfan - a free app designed for controlling all of your system fans (they will need to be connected to the motherboard to use the app.) Or, you could get a fan controller. Personally, I use a fan controller because I have 6 case fans - I like to turn most of them off when I'm not using the system and turn them all the way up when gaming etc.

Hi pjadovich,

Yes, if your fans are directly plugged into the PSU then they will always be running at 100%.

Some solutions:

-Plug the ones you can into your motherboard, as the system can control and regulate the fans.
-Install the free 'Speedfan' software to have better contorl of the fans installed on your motherboard: http://almico.com/speedfan.php

If you are willing to spend a bit of money and have a free 5.25' bay at the front of you compter (& an extra molex power connector coming from your PSU) I would recommend getting the NZXT Sentry Mix 2 fan controller. It is a fanstastic fan controller with support for 6 fans and long connection cables for very easy cable management. Here is a link to the Sentry Mix 2:
