Hi,

Recently I took all the components out of my pc to dust everything. I unplugged all the wires and took everything out. I have put everything back in but now the fans aren’t working. My case is the NZXT s340, they are stock fans. They both lead to two metal prongs.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance.

Solution
Those two prongs look like the pins from the inside of a 4 pin molex adapter that somebody has removed. There is something seriously wrong and probably dangerous with those being exposed and uncovered, plus, that is a horrible way to run fans. They can only run at 100% speed in that manner, rather than being controlled by temperature.

I would highly suggest that you not continue using them in that way. In any case, if you decide to continue, those will plug into one of the four pin molex connectors or an adapter to molex, coming from the PSU.

Is that two pin cable coming from the power supply? Does it connect via adapter to another cable before it gets to the power supply?

I would seriously consider getting a 3 pin capable fan hub...
Unplug them and make sure they are plugged in to where they actually belong and that they are plugged in correctly. If they worked before, they must work now, and something must have been done wrong between then and now. Look at the manual for your case to verify where they are supposed to be plugged in to.

Are the case fans plugged in to the motherboard or to a fan hub on the case? If they are plugged into a fan hub on the case then there should be another cable that goes from the fan hub to one of the motherboard fan headers.

I can’t find anything to plug them into. I couldn’t find anything on the manual:

The two fans have separate cables which plug into adaptors, which lead to two metal prongs. The cables don’t lead anywhere else. The fan cables are 3 pin and don’t connect to my motherboard. Really confused on how I’ve managed this.

I build it myself. Motherboard is Gigabyte h110m-S2h

So, your motherboard has only a CPU fan header and one System fan header. Both are four pin PWM headers. If your case fans are three wire fans, they are voltage controlled. The user manual does not state that the onboard headers support voltage controlled fans, so you must have either an adapter cable to go from 3 pin voltage controlled to 4 pin Molex coming from the power supply (Might only have two pins in use, for power and ground. This type of connection would mean the fans operate at full speed at all times regardless of temperature) or be connected to a fan hub that supports voltage control. One other option is that you might have a four pin to three pin adapter AND splitter, connecting the fans to the motherboard fan headers.

I'm assuming you are only having issues with two of the three fans not working. Where is the third fan connected to? According to the manual for your case, that case comes with three pre-installed fans. I don't see any mention of an integrated fan controller or hub coming as part of the case.

I would seriously consider getting a 3 pin capable fan hub that can be connected to the motherboard system fan header and then connected to all of the case fans in your case. The current method is sketchy, at best.

Okay I’ll probably buy a fan hub then.
I found an adapter which connects to one of my power supply cables. It says ‘Do not connect while running’ on it. Not sure if this matters. It may have been where the prongs were connected.
Anyway I’ll just buy a fan hub. I also plugged on of the fans into the mother board and it’s working fine.
Thanks a lot :)

If the board IS controlling your fan, it's likely operating at full speed all the time. If you're ok with that, then you can get a fan cable splitter and connect both fans that way. It would still be better than using that modified Molex setup.

Better still would be a fan hub though. Be sure to get one that allows you to connect the hub to the four pin header on the motherboard BUT will allow for 3 pin voltage controlled connections on the hub, to the fans themselves. That way they won't just be at full speed all the time unless they need to be. Much quieter when the fans aren't going full bore 24/7.

There are several decent ones out there.
