Im quite new to making computers and I'm not sure, if having a larger case than necessary would be an issue? I cannot see any problems with that but I dont know if I have overlooked something.

Haha yes it does look a bit lonely. Case size is a matter of preference so long as it's big enough. Too big is generally only an issue if you're limited on space where you plan to put your case such as under a desk, on a particular shelf etc. Bigger cases might need slightly stronger fans to get air flowing all the way through the case but don't suffer as much from rapid heat build up due to being cramped.

Like Gam3r01 mentioned, some cases can present a problem of cables reaching. Especially if they have a bottom mounted power supply with a long reach to the top combined with cable routing where the cpu power cable has to go through to the back of the motherboard tray, up the back to the top of the case, back through the motherboard...
The only issue is if cables dont reach. Unless you are using very large cases then you will not have to worry.
I personally think a case can be "too big" (The internal system will look empty) but there really is no technical problem with it.

I ran into that issue when I upgraded my case to the enthoo pro which is basically a full tower case. For around $8 or so I picked up a cpu power cable extension and it worked just fine.

There are all sorts of extension cables if you should run into that issue. There should be no problem with case headers for front audio or usb ports, cases come with their own cables and take the distance from front to back into account and generally give you plenty of cable to work with.
