[SOLVED] Case with 5 1/4" Drive Bay ?

I haven't bought the case yet. I'd rather go with a Case that has ODD bay. You know, you read some of the reviews and before you know it, you've looked at a lot of cases. It's funny, when you find the one that's perfect, the negative comments make you skip to the next case. A friend of nine told me to ask this question on your site.

My build will consist of the following........

Intel Core i7-11700K
Corsair RMX Series, RM750x
MSI Z590 MPG Gaming Carbon WiFi
Corssair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2X16GB) DDR4 3200
SanDisk Ultra 3D NAND 1TB Internal SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/
Noctua NH-U12S chromax.Black, 120mm Single-Tower CPU Cooler
ASUS 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive

Thanks,
Jim

This is a list of cases with one ODD slot.
Case choice is subjective.
Some are junk some are great.
Find a few you like the looks of in your price range and post them here.
Most cases will last you a few builds. So look for something you will like seeing and using every day.

How often do you use your DVD writer? If it's only an occasional thing, it may make sense to get ane external writer and not limit your choices cases. External 5.25" bays have largely been phased out and requiring one trims down the cases you can choose from, and as a result, some of the features you can have.

For example, if you want a USB-C port on the front panel, of the more than 4500 cases listed on PCPP, there's only a single in-stock case under $150 that has a 5.25" bay (Silverstone RL05). And even there, you get an acrylic panel.

What, to you makes a case "good"?

I had a need for a case with little depth, like<17"
I also wanted a 5 1/2 drive for the occasional old game requiring one.
I use the CM HAF XB EVO:

It is one of the easiest cases to work on.
As a plus, it has some removable sata bays for backup devices.

You can see a list of good candidates if you filter the 5.25 requirement in newegg cases.

For a single bay the Carbide Series 678C Low Noise Tempered Glass ATX Case is very nice. The ODD bay is behind the door which holds closed with magnets (hinged, very clean operation). The only concern I would have with it is if you were going to require more airflow through the front than what can be sucked in from the bottom of the door -- space between the door front and the case carved out for air intake is not going to win any prize. Radiator can go up top rather (where we put them) than the front and the bottom of the case will allow air in. Both help minimize starving the radiator fans of available air. A couple of good fans in the front using a different PWM setting from the other fans has been okay as well, but the cases we have are running OC or high power discrete graphics.

Otherwise the only thing to pick on is the grommets Corsairs uses for wire pass through. They come out of the hole very easily. A couple dabs of silicone would likely hold them in and still allow them to easily be removed later, but they are fine as-is if you don't mind sliding them back in place every time you run a wire. Absent what is mentioned, fit and finish is outstanding.

Corsair does have other cases with multiple ODD that do not have door, smaller too.
