Case with a window -- can you remove/block it?

Hello!

While looking at cases, I've noticed a good number of the ones I enjoy come with a window, and I really don't want a side window. I'm just not a fan of looking inside the computer, and I don't plan on having any leds. Besides just covering the window, is there anything I can do? (I know, I know. Buy a case without a window).

Any suggestions though?

Thanks! :)

Not that I can think of besides replacing it with a custom made piece. Most side panel windows are either bolted or mounted in the metal frame, they are not easily removable.

Which cases are you looking at? Buying a non windowed case would definitely be an easier route to go.

Most cases that come with a window, also will have the same model without it. If not, you could try to contact the manufacturer of which ever case you want to buy and simply ask if they have a windowless option or if some of their older model side panels will fit the case you buy.

I've been looking at different cases for over a week straight by now. I really love the style of Fractal Design cases with the sleek brushed metal look, but I'm trying to keep the case under or around $40. I've gone back and forth between some Corsair, Thermaltake, and Raidmax cases. Right now I'm really thinking of the Raidmax Vortex ATX Mid Tower Case because there's a good deal on newegg ($29.99 with free s/h) and it seems to be a decent case for the price range.

I might just suck it up and go with the windowed version, not put leds in it, and pretend the window isn't there. :)

Thanks for the quick answer!

Ohhh, didn't think of that. Crafty. I might give it a try!

Thanks :)

If you like the simplistic and clean look of the fractal series I would look into the Corsair 200R or NZXT Source 210. Both are around $40 and are quite good for the price. Not the biggest fan of Raidmax cases since they are usually flimsy and are quite gaudy in appearance (imho)..

If you are near a Micro Center they usually have great deals on computer parts. I picked up my Source 210 for $30 there.

Yeah, I actually have both of those in my favorites list right now, hahaha. I don't generally like Raidmax, although the Vortex's being all black and not having leds makes it look much less funky and gaudy. I do wish it wasn't so glossy, but eh.

Unfortunately, I live nowhere near a Micro Center. I'm assuming their deals are mostly in-store?

That would be correct. The subreddit r/buildapcsales is useful for finding good deals on computer parts.

On the right there is a sidebar for different categories of products including cases. Just something to keep an eye out if not planning to buy soon.

The Deepcool tesseract is also another budget case that is good for the price. It frequently goes on sale for $30.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on those! I think I have some good ideas now :)

You know, this crossed my mind...you don't think it would cause any problems?

I dont think so , but it would be smart to get some good advice from a paint shop on the right paint to use .

Awesome, thanks! It looks like it's going to be a mATX build, so I've had that case on my radar as well. I might buy the case last since I'm clearly so indecisive, but the idea about painting the window definitely opens up some options.
