The last of my case fans came in today and at some point I will be installing them into their new home, but not 100% sure of which way I should do it. I have the Thermaltake Versa H22 Special Edition case http://www.microcenter.com/product/432417/Versa_H22_Special_Edition_Mid_Tower_Case_-_Black
and 8 120mm case fans to drop into it... I already have 1 in the front as an intake, 2 in the top and 1 in the back as exhaust.
I am thinking of 1 more in the front as intake (no brainer there) and the 2 on the side panel as exhaust as they are right by my video card (R9 390).
Would this setup seem like the most effective for this case? 2 intake in the front and the rest exhaust?

Solution
I can completely understand the need for side fans, but I can't remember when last I built a rig with side fans.

You can look here for filters: http://www.demcifilter.com/

Back fan for me is always exhaust - most often with the radiator from the closed loop cooler.

Edit: I have built PCs with fans exhausting in the top - I think I still have one in the living room like that. THing is, I always worry about spills. there isn't much to protect the insides from liquid should someone spill something over an open vent at the top. Thank goodness it has never yet happened - but I worry. :)
I have a rule of thumb (but I hardly ever use more than 3 case fans).

Always 1 more intake than outlet. That way incoming air is through the fans and hopefully the filters in front of the fans, rather than anywhere else. It keeps dust in the case to a minimum

Airflow: front to rear and bottom to top.

I agree, in my case I have 2 front intake, 1 bottom intake, 1 top exhaust, and 1 rear exhaust. Like Karsten said, I like to have one more intake than exhaust this will maintain a positive pressure environment inside your case this means the only air entering your case will be from your hopefully filtered intake fans. With a negative pressure environment (more exhaust fans than intake) the case air will be sucked through all the vents and cracks in your case causing more dust build up.

ok...so now I need to rethink my intake/exhaust placement, as my 2 side fans are not filtered....
2 top fans exhaust (heat rises, and no filters on them)
2 front intake (filtered)

What would you guys do with these fans? Intake or exhaust?
1 back fan (no filters)
2 side fans (no filters)

I would think the back fan as an exhaust to have a "push-pull" through the case...

Up in the air with the side fans as they have no filter on them, but they are more or less directly across from my video card and cpu...
