Hello, I have a Sony portable CD/Radio/Cassette Recorder sound machine. I have a problem of mains hum when playing an audio cassette. This isn't apparent when playing a CD or listening to the Radio - only when playing a cassette and when running off the mains. The mains lead isn't faulty and I've tried using various wall sockets throughout the house. Would anyone know of a simple solution for this please? I wonder if anyone else has experienced this - the hum spoils the playback. Thanks, Glenn

Well at least the hum covers up the tape hiss ;) Sounds like there is some electrical noise from the internal transformer. Could be a slight grounding issue internally or shielding degradation from age. Do you have the option to run off an external transformer? Outside of that I can't think of anything simple.

Edit: Issue will be with the head itself likely.
