Cat spilled water on my running motherboard with no case

I have a Asus M5A97 Le R2.0 Motherboard today. This motherboard was fine for months, I got in the habit of leaving the computer on for 10+ days at a time. After doing this once, I shut off the computer before going to bed.

I woke up the next morning, and the computer wouldnt turn on. It would try to start the fans, but stop quickly after. I tried replacing every part on besides the motherboard and cpu multiple times. I removed the battery and tried 3 types of ram, 3 different graphic cards, and 3 different power supplies.

The computer eventually booted up, and worked just fine for a few days. Then one night, my cat jumped out the window, looked at me and then hit a water bottle that was near by. The bottle fell and spilled a small amount of water directly onto the running motherboard. My screen froze and I think there was a slight sound on the board. I quickly hit the power switch on my power supply, to try and save the board.

After waiting 3 days, I managed to boot up to my windows desktop. After about 10 minutes or so, the computer manually shut off as if you were to unplug it. I got it to boot twice like this. Now, I try to boot it and I see the motherboard screen, but 10 seconds later the computer shuts off.

There are kinda turquoise colors around the cpu that look like corrosion. My questions are, is there any possible way to save this motherboard? And, should I buy a new motherboard for the cpu, or just throw it away and buy a whole new setup?

Was the cat amused? : D

You could possibly try cleaning the corroded area well with isopropyl alcohol (It should be a high 90%+ to minimize the amount of water in it) and leaving it to dry for a while again, perhaps using something like a hair dryer to expedite the removal of moisture from underneath components. If a trace or something corroded through, it wouldn't really help, but if there was just some material or moisture shorting some connections, it could potentially clean that out. If there seemed to be water under the CPU, it would probably make sense to remove that too. At the very least, if the motherboard is already not functioning, it's not like there's much to lose. (Just try not to electrocute yourself with the hairdryer, and obviously unplug the system)

As for whether you should by a new setup or just a new motherboard, what are your system's other components, and what do you use the system for? You should probably get some sort of case for it, at the very least.

the other components are 2 8gb sticks of ddr3 ram, zotac gt220 1gb graphics card, and an amd fx -6350 cpu.

All those work good for me, except the cpu. Im using the pc for making many virtual machines running oldschool runescape. Now Im on a A4-5000 cpu which is so bad, I cant stand using it and Im far less productive than before. Im looking at new setups now:

Not sure what to buy though, Im sick of using bad computers. Ill try your method with the alcohol tomorrow in the mean time, thank you for that suggestion.
