Hello I have an 20MB uncapped internet adsl (basically 2Mb/s download speed) and my wifi pc is about 20 meters away from the router...my downloads are not that stable and also when I game it works but not that good..it gives like every 1min or so up to 2% packet loss and it annoys me!! Will this cheap 20 meter Cat5e work for my internet and be better than my wifi? I know I dont have the best ineternet but my internet was perfect when it was connected to the router via ethernet cable in my old house. And also my wifi bars are full.

Well I am with Talk Talk. I am supposed to get 1 Gigabit but am only getting 300 gigbit. I am using Cat5e as supplied. I believe it is unofficially supporting up to 1 gig a bit. Cat6 is sertified to 1 gig a bit.

It should be. Do you have any ethernet cables you can test with to be sure the problem is not on the internet connection itself.

Normally I would say it will work fine with no reservations. Now I say if you can avoid all the fake cable on the market it will work fine. Certified cat5e cable can run 1gbit up to 100 meters. The cable must be made from pure copper ( no cca) and have wire size 22-34 (no flat or thin cables).

The link you have has no details and the photo they use is not of the actual cable. I was hoping to see if there were eia/tia markings on the cable or if it told the wire size. What i can see is it say cat6. It would not matter if it is was cat6, you get no real benefit but it means this is not the cable they are really selling since they clearly said it was cat5e

I would buy cable matters or mono price for ethernet cables. 5e will do the job.

Ethernet will always be better than wifi. However Wifi hanging and dropping like 2% of packets is a sign your router may need replacing, are too far away from your router.

I would run a ping test using your phone from the same distance and see if you get similar numbers. It might be your NIC.

If you get similar dropped packets or locked up wifi then it might be time to look at a new router. Since you are price sensitive, I'll point you in that direction.

The Phicom K3C is an excellent bargain at $41

I played with this for a while and while it doesn't have all the features I like or the echo system, it's throughput and range was excellent for me.

There is no way to say for sure but that cable if it is actually the one they took a photo of say eia/tia on the side. Generally you must pay for the right to put that on your cables because it means it really has been certified when it was manufactured. Unfortunately some disreputable companies from china have been putting it on non certified cable.

It would be nice if the vendor actually gave you the specs for the cable. If the vendor is reputable and stands behind the cables they sell that is the most important thing.

Don't u have a reputable outlet in the UK? I.e.: I know here Best Buy/Newegg won't sell me fake cables, and if u buy Belkin, a common brand, 99% u should be OK.

Ethernet cables used to be a no-thinking thing then u know the Chinese, if corners can be cut, they will.
