Cat5e Keystone Wiring Issue?

I'm trying to figure out why one drop is not working at my house. It was pre-wired and the wiring does not follow any standard. This is what it looked like when I pull the plate off.

When I looked at the drop from the wiring closet it looks like the standard T568A configuration. I checked the other drops around my house and they're the same as pictured above. I'm hoping it's not a severed cat5 cable somewhere.

That is a standard jack. I can not say if it is 568a or 568b but it is one or the other. If it was done correctly then both ends will be 568a.

If they all work except 1 jack your best bet is to just pull the wire out of the jack cut off a inch or so and then punch it back down. A actual punch down tool is best but a small screwdriver and wire cutter will work if you try hard.

There is really no way to tell by looking at stuff like this if the wire really is making contact with the pins or if it did not cut though the insulation.

I bought a new jack and used a punch tool to pin it down. Still no luck with the tester.

Oh the other end, the wiring closet has the wires like this.

All the other wires are the same. I may use a new connector on the closet end.

Wires don't typically go bad right? Although I don't know if this drop ever worked.

Maybe if someone ran a nail though it but generally once the wire is in the wall it lasts forever. Pretty much only the ends get messed up.

There should be color code markings on the side of the jack I would hope. There is no consistent pattern between manufactures to know which pins go to which connectors on the back. At least it appears all the wire pairs were kept together.

I just swapped out the connector on the other end. No luck. I think the cable is toast

You can test the pairs with normal voltage meter and a battery.

If it does not even run at 100m then likely the green or orange pair has a issue. You could try to swap the blue and/or the brown for the green and orange. It is very non standard but the signals can't see the wire color and you should be able to get 100m with those 2 pair.

Did the tester show no connection on any of the wire pairs? Normally if you drive a nail through the cable or a rat chews through it, only one or two pairs are compromised - the other pairs still work (and you only need two pairs for 100 Mbps).

If none of the pairs work at all, someone probably accidentally cut the cable while doing other work in the house. So I would be cautious about trying the "tie new cable to old, and pull it through" trick.

And that's a horrifying mess in the wiring closet. If you feel up to re-wiring it all, I'd install a patch panel.

And I am wondering about what appears to be one of those crimp splices connecting blue to drabbish green and behind that is another crimp connector with some "white to white" connection? Different pairs......

Not at all sure what those connections would be for or doing?

The crimped connectors are the uverse line. I quit using them. They did a half ass job installing.

As to the question about any wires getting voltage. None are as of now. Last night I was messing with wires and I got all to light up but number 2. I might try to do some switching of wires later tonight
