I have a run of CAT6 cable about 168 feet long. Going from a DSL Modem with builtin 4 port switch going to a 4 port Router in another building. The CAT6 cable is buried and in a Plastic conduit. The problem is that I cant get the Router to even recognize that it is connected to the DSL Modem. The Modem doesn't show a connection to the router either. Did I miss a step here???

Solution
If you have "been doing this for a while", then you should have basic cable testing equipment. Do you have 8 wires straight through? Did you follow the 568B color code? Are both devices gigabit? If not then you would have to do a crossover cable ...

I doubt it. I have been doing this for a while now and this is the first time that I have encountered this type of issue.
Just thought that if I hit Yall up that some of you might have seen this before and had a quick, "Hey try this!"

It will matter if you are connecting to the WAN port or a LAN port on the remote router and how you have it setup.
Also did you disable DHCP on the remote router and set a static address in the range on your LAN.

Should still get a link light. Anyone who claims they've been doing this for a while and expects never to do it wrong is kidding themselves or simply haven't been doing long enough to to realise everyone some times gets it wrong.

You sure that you didn't get duped when buying the cable...? There's a metric-crap-ton of CCA "Cat6" going around, which, of course, doesn't typically ever meet any kind of cable standard.
