Cat6 ethernet cable is not working correctly

Hi. I brought a cat6 Ethernet cable from Best buy yesterday. I installed it to the port on the Xfinity router and my laptop(Acer E17). When I restart the laptop, the Ethernet cable does not work. I have to switch to wifi to use the internet. What could be the problem? Any assistance will be appreciated. sister5091

1| Can you please state the make and model of your laptop?
2| Have you made sure your Ethernet port's drivers are installed and are up to date?
3| On that note, are you sure your Ethernet port isn't damaged/faulty due to an old laptop?
Did you use the Ethernet port prior to purchasing the CAT6 cable?

Also, go to network and sharing center > left hand side click "Change adapter settings" and see if the Ethernet adapter even shows up and if so, detects when a cable is plugged into it.

I called Comcast and they said that the gigabit speed that I want is not in my area. Thanks Lutfij
