Question cause of loss of keyboard functions

Sometimes I lose characters and direction arrows functions. Other times a character keeps repeating. I have changed motherboards because I thought the ribbon connector was dodgy. I'm wondering if really being caused by the touch pad or the keyboard? I left it unplugged and it restarted this evening to different start screen and working correctly. What is the cause of this type of fault?

I have changed motherboards because I thought the ribbon connector was dodgy.
That reads out like you replaced the motherboard in a laptop? If so, might want to mention the make and model of the laptop and it's SKU.

Sometimes I lose characters and direction arrows functions. Other times a character keeps repeating.
That's usually a sign of the keyboard needing replacement due to being faulty or giving out over time(if it's been used for a while).

Its an Asus Laptop/NotebookPC F551M
Some times loosening the top from the base helped it stop repeating characters

Other than sticky keys (which i dont think it is because any character can repeat) what could be the cause of this

Any more thoughts. Could moisture cause this? I use my computer in freezing conditions for astrophotography. I'm wondering if the touch pad is the culprit?
