CD/DVD drive does not read blank CDs after latest Win & updates////

Hello,
After the latest Win 7 updates on three of my computers, the CD drive does not read blank CDs. It gives an error message "Windows cannot read the disk in drive E:\"
etc, format the disk etc.

I was always able to put a blank CD in the drive and see that it was blank or could copy files to drive. Now, it only gives me this message. I tried several different blank CDs. They work fine in my older XP computer.

Try restore to date before updates applied, or uninstall the updates.
In the future, choose custom install, as there may be updates you don't want to install !

Not sure which restore point would work, but I will try it.
The fact that all three computers all recently updated with the latest Win 7 updates is suspicious.

Other than restoring all three comoputers, has anyone heard of this issue with others?

I had the same problem on two machines one xp the other win 7,but I cannot determine which update it was.. it seem to have resolved itself on the 7 machine.
however the same set of updates prevent Quattro pro from running and a reload doesn't cure the problem any suggestions
