CD/DVD Reader not showing up in Win10

So I'm 99% sure this is software based, as the reader still shows up when I go through BIOS and will spin the disk and eject disks, though sometimes it takes a bit to get it to eject disks.

Basically, for the last few months my CD/DVD reader won't show up anywhere in win10. Nothing in device manager.

I'm using an MSI GE62 Apache Pro-004

Any help is much appreciated!


EDIT: It's a Super Multi DVD Writer, model GUD0N

Did you install any cd/dvd emulation programs. Or anything like Daemontools?

Programs like this can / will stop dvds from working

No I haven't.

Have you tried using 'Action', 'Scan for Hardware Changes' in Device Manager? Otherwise it might be a dead drive.

I have. I've also looked at the hidden devices. I doubt it's dead though because it still shows up in BIOS

If ccleaner is installed go to tools/uninstall

Save to text file. Copy and paste what comes up in here

Wonder if burnrecovery is causing it?? It does something with dvds

If this starts crashing I would uninstall Supercharger. Programs like this are known to crash windows

So powerdvd cant play dvds either?

The problem is that I can't get the reader to show up at all in windows, not that I can't play dvds from it.

Only thing it maybe something is loose somewhere. if its removable take it out put it back in

Yeah.. I've done that about 30 times already.

See if this entry is in the registry first

reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
