why doesnt windows see my dvd rom sometimes, and when it does not show up in my device manager why does it continue to spin. This happens when i put a cd in it. Even when i restart it continues to spin when windows boots up but does not see drive, i cant even push eject button to get cd out.

I would try removing the drive in the device manager, then restarting and letting Windows auto-detect it and re-install the drivers. If that doesn't work I would check the jumper on the back of the drive and make sure it's set to slave, master, or cable-select correctly. Also make sure all connectors are firmly seated. If it still doesn't work - well, then you might need a new drive.

I burn out about one drive per year. Thankfully, they're cheap. 😎
