cd key and steam

I just downloaded Steam - assuming 1.5 is going bye-bye soon - and when
it asked for my CD key it says that it is in use. I'm the only one
that's ever used it (having bought the platinum pack new) and I've never
had a steam account before. Any solution short of sending in the sleeve
and getting the key reset?

E-mail them including a scan of the packaging clearly showing the CD
Key. They know about keygens and should sort you out.
