In windows 2k whenever I try to install from a cd, let's say a game like StarCraft the OS blue screens and gives me an IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO error. There are no IRQ conflicts between it and any other devices. Sometimes even inserting a disc can cause the blue screen because of the AutoRun. In 98SE,ME and any other OS I have used on this systems the CD-ROM has worked fine, but under 2k it crashes constantly. Any help and info would be appreciated

I have seen the irq_not_less_than_or_equal to errors a couples of times on some Dell GX1 (P3-450's) at my last job. After upgrading the bios and/or the nic drivers, they stopped. Just a thought... Also have seen an old post that said to disable the s.m.a.r.t setting in the bios but I cannot verify if that would help. My CD burner came with N.T.I. burning software and it would not burn if the auto insert notification was enabled, but I believe that was with win98se. Good luck.

I know how to fix this!!! Here's a temporary fix. Turn off BIOS shadowing in the BIOS settings. Then enter safe mode. Remove all of the drivers that may be in conflict. At this point you may not be sure. So you should remove the network card driver, the display driver, and the sound card driver. Then restart in normal maode and reinstall the drivers. Next thing to do is check whether ACPI is enabled. If, so then here's the permanent fix. You need to backup all of your data e.g. anything in your documents and setting and anything in your winnt directory. Then you need to remove win2k and reinstall it with ACPI disabled. Basically what causes this problem is that several devices share the same IRQ since Win2k doesn't play nicely with ACPI yet, I guess until SP2 comes out. Once you've done this you should be able to shuffle IRQs to eliminate this problem from happening again. Hope this helps coz it sure as hell cured my system that had the same problem.
