CD Writing Wizard Stopped allowing multisession CDs

I use a Lite-On CD-R/DVD-ROM drive. I used to be able to add more data to
CD-Rs that already had data written by the built-in CD Writing Wizard in
Windows XP Home. But now I can only write to CD-Rs once. I liked being able
to keep adding data to CD-Rs, it helps me organize my file storage. Is this
a software or hardware problem? I already tried slowing down the writing
speed. I'm still using the same brand of CD-R that I had been able to write
to multiple times.

i'd like to add that the problem seems to have started after i tried using a
cheap, untested brand of cd-r and the computer hung during the writing
process.

Hi,

Have you checked the Box 'finalized the CD" after burning.
If yes, uncheck the box.

i've never seen a box "finalize the CD". after i asign a name to the cd and
click "next" the cd writing wizard takes over with no further input from me.

also, cds i had written to before this problem started and which still had
free space are now not recognized as having free space. so the problem is
not the way the cds were written but that the drive doesn't recognize that a
cd that should still have free space still has free space.

Hi,

In this case, try boot in safe mode and login as admininstrator.
Go to device manager and uninstall the DVD R/W then reboot.
Windows should find new hardware and install the proper drivers again.

Pls post back if still have problems.

Peter

i tried your suggestion but it still didn"t help. i'm starting to think that
it might be a hardware problem because the drive is making unusual sounds
when reading some discs. i'll just bring it to the retailer. thanks for the
help!
