I am having problem with my burner. It is a new Verbatim 52x24x52. I am using Nero 5 and updated to the latest version. The problem I have is the burner would pass simulation, complete burning process etc but the resulting disc cannot be read. Both my CD drive and CDRW drive cannot read the resulting disks. If I ask Nero to verifity data after burning, it would say "failed to mount disk" or something at the verifying stage.

I've read about the windows XP bug and installed Q320174_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe but didn't solve the problem. After I installed the win fix, I've only tried disc-at-once, no multisession, finalize CD setting. After half a dozen failed burns and wasted cdr's, I thought I would ask before I try with different burning settings...

Thanks!

Burn at a really low speed (The lowest speed your burner supports), but some high speed cdrs have problems being burnt slow. Kinda of a double bladed sword. Also use a quality cdr like maxell or that's or sony.

Plus what is your burning configuration. Its it by it's self on the ide channel? If not put it buy its self.

Is this a new problem or an on going issue?

Try some different CDRs. Some discs don't work well with some burners. One thing though, sometimes identical discs are sold under more than one brand name so you need to determine what discs you have now.

Nero comes with a utility Nero CD Speed. In this utility, somewhere, there is the ability to check the true manufacturer of the CDRs. It will also display the dye type. (Important if the manufacturer uses more than one dye type). I think it's in the overburn test (sorry, I have the wrong system running right now and I can't check this). Anyway, try it and tell us what it reports.

Some common manufacturers are CMC Magnetics, Taiyo Yuden, Prodisc, Ritek. These are different than brand names like Imation, Memorex, Fuji Film. TDK is the exception. They manufacturer their own discs.

Only about half of my CDROMs can read CMC Magnetics made discs that I have tried (I tried 3 brands). My writer can read the discs but very slowly (4x) near the end of every disc. Some of the discs even had errors.

I had much better luck with Taiyo Yuden manufactured discs. These work on 100% of my drives with no speed problems or errors.

Fuji Film discs are my preferred brand which in the USA are always Taiyo Yuden manufactured discs.

Thank you both for suggestions.

I tried burning speed of 32x, 16x, 12x, 8x but didn't make any difference.

Here is a little more detail on the psychial installation. The drive is installed as Slave on 2nd IDE channel; master is my old 16x CD drive. The old 16x cd driver is not DMA capable, hope that's not a problem.

I instelled the same type of burner for my brother's computer and it worked fine with drag-and-drop copy from windows xp. That time, I used the CDR that came with the burner.

The CDR's I am using do have any printed labels. The Nero Info Tool tells me they are from Postech, CD-R, 79 mins that I got from my brother (planning to buy some CDR's myself just haven't got around to do so)

I'll ask my brother to test burn some CDs with this Postech CDRs and see the what happens. I'll report back here if I discover something new.

replace the ide cable if you have one. Make the burner master and leave it buy it self for this test. Then try to burn a cd.

I made the CDRW as master, and the only driver on the 2nd IDE channel. CD burning still failed but I got more detailed error message this time (tried 2 times with different CDR's, a non branded and a Memorex).

You didn't say earlier that you were getting errors.

I thought you were successfully burning but just couldn't read the discs.

Here's some info on Fixation errors with Nero (follow all the links).
