Cds wont play

Hello,
I have a compaq presario using windows vista and although it tries I cannot get my cd to read any of the audio cds I put in it. What is wrong with it?

Could be the DVD drive is broken. It happens. Does it read data CDs. (Note that it may be that it can read DVDs but not CDs.)

I dont know so much about data cds, but it will play dvds through the vlc player perfectly. Just seems to have no interest in audio cds

Or replace the drive. Issues like this do not have a software fix.
