I just got a celeron 566(oem-SL4PC) & trying to o/c it to 850 in an Abit BE6-II using Slocket III(all jumpers in auto). At first it'll POST but Win98SE freezes. Later on it'll not even boot. In the BIOS,CPU temp. reaches 58-59 deg C (heatsink/fan-oem) .I know its not good & I didn't even touch the CPU voltage yet. Any comments/suggestion?

set your fsb to 100, +you need a better fan, you may want to try upping the voltage but I wouldn't recomend that unless you get a better hs/fan

sounds like you need a better heatsink pep66t is a good one runs my cel 566@850 1.75v 38c. Have you used thermal passt on the core of the cpu?

don't worry about the cpu temperature for now. your range should be fine for now. try upping the voltage by .05 at a time and see if your comp will post. if all else fails go get yourself liquid nitrogen.

Yes,I've used thermal paste.I also tried 8.5 by 7.5 & then 8.5 by 839 (without increase in CPU voltage core) & it seems to be working. I haven't used yet a better hsf.

Is it true that OEM CPUs are second class to RETAIL(or boxed) CPUs as far as overclockability is concern?
Thanks.

it depends...it's all about luck of the draw. not all cpu's are created equal. some cpu's have higher core, i.e an athlon 700 could have a 900 core. but it's not like you can open up a cpu before you decide to buy.
i heard, but not sure, that the chips made in germany(with blue core) are more overclocker friendly. the green die, texax, produced are less clockable...

I have an ABIT VH6 and a cel566@850! From the first time it worked perfect but i had to raise the vcore up to 1.70(my motherboard doesn't give any more). Temperature is with 100% usage of cpu 31-32 C. I put a double Super Orb fan on cpu and two more extra for the entire system. I bought cel in a silver paper(oem). Try your cel!! You won't loose!!!

I am almost positive that you are overheating. Buy an FOP-32 and set your voltage to 1.80v. If that cures it, try 1.75v and see if it's still stable. After all, no use in using more voltage than you need.
