Will it even work in your motherboard? I don't think so. If it does, it will perform significantly better. If not, don't bother buying a new board and RAM, buy something newer.

I hope you're getting the motherboard on the cheap. Also note you won't be able to overclock. But yes, it should perform better than what you are currently using. Much higher clock, larger L2 cache.

Yep. The Williamette is something like a CPU Prototype that died, was resurrected and came back bad. The 356 will be faster.

As a suggestion, a Socket 754 or 939 board with a Sempron will most likely be faster and, if you can get the parts used, cheaper.

I assume you're talking about getting the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA. That's a good idea, as you can slowly(as money permits) upgrade to a Core2Duo, and DDR2/PCI-e eventually. GL :)

For that you can get a 754 board and an A64 or Sempron that would slaughter the Celeron. Maybe even a 939 board? At least with the ASRock board, he has a decent upgrade path...all the way to C2D. Throwing an E4x00 in that board will be a very cheap/well performing setup.

You're right, assuming that's what he's doing.
