I'm planning on getting a laptop computer for a friend. He does not have a lot of money to spend. What he does is watch youtube, sometimes in HD (he has a fast enough internet), write e-mails, surfing the web, and typing documents. I have browsed a few shops and I understand that 2 cores is more than enough, quad core will not benefit him(I doubt its performance at this price point). Now, I'm having a little trouble deciding between a Celeron and Pentium processor, specs are very similar and the largest clock speed difference is a mere 20Mhz. Choosing a Celeron can save a lot (It is on sale), but I do not want to drop performance for a little saving. I personally have used a Pentium and it is very good at doing the job, but I have not used a Celeron. What do you think? Should I choose the Celeron over the Pentium?

For the tasks you mentioned and price difference, yes. You can get an i7 but you wouldn't really enjoy paying for something you don't really require.

Those task are pretty basic and Celeron is enough to handle them without lag and stuff. If the price difference is really a factor, get the Celeron.

Pentium are better no doubt but Celeron will do the mentioned tasks with ease.
