Centering the window on my external monitor

Hello,
I'm using my HDTV for an external monitor for my laptop. When I increase the resolution for my HDTV, the window is no longer centered and I can't see the right side of the window all. Does anyone know how to center the window on a external monitor in Windows 7? I am using a VGA cable for the connection.

First, try to not use a VGA cable, you will have much better quality using DVI or HDMI, if your video card supports it. Second, find out what the native (max) resolution is for you monitor and try using that setting. Sometimes the cable type can cause issues with detecting the TV properly, a DVI or HDMI connection may help you as well.

You need to set the resolution of the tv to it's exact native size, not higher.
Typically they are 1024x768, 1280x1024, but check your tv manual.

You need to change the screen resolution settings in Windows.

1. Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.

2. Click the Resolution drop-down list, and move the slider to choose a different resolution.

Most HDTV sets use the 16:9 widescreen format, so you'll want to choose a screen resolution where the shape of the picture matches the wide format of your HDTV.

3. When you find a screen resolution that looks right, click Apply.

4. If the new screen resolution looks correct, click Keep changes, and then click OK.
