I am currently upgrading my rig, I have bought the following components

- A88X-G45 Gaming Motherboard
- R9 270X 2048MB GPU

And I currently have the AMD A10 7800K APU 3.5/3.9GHz Quad Core Socket FM2+ sitting in my shopping basket, do you think this is a good buy for playing the latest games or would you recommend a different CPU for the above build, please advise.

You made a mistake. You bought a motherboard that works with APU's, which is a GPU/CPU in a single chip, but then you bought a GPU. So buying that chip, you will only use the CPU part of it. Waste of money. A APU is a GPU/CPU combo in which both are ok, but neither are spectacular at what they do. They will get you by and you can do some light gaming on them, but then by buying a separate GPU, the APU won't use it's GPU portion, so it will sit there wasted and never be used. For the money of the APU, you could have gotten a better CPU to use with your GPU.

I don't know if you can return the motherboard and start over, because putting an APU into a system with a discrete GPU is a total waste.

Thank you so much for a quick reply, clearly a rookie mistake 🙁 - I will be trying to return the motherboard, are you able to recommend a decent CPU & motherboard for my R9 270x?
