So I want to get a fx 6300 and I have the m5a78l-m lx3 mobo will I need to update the bios and also are all the fx 6300's the same even the ones with the random letters

I'm not sure what you are asking in the second part of your question. All FX-6300's are the same except for possible core steppings. What do you mean by random letters?
