CEP?

I've held off getting this because I've heard sometimes it causes
problems, but I'm wondering, can it cause problems with anything that
doesn't use it, such as the OC and expansions, and mods that don't
require it? Is it easy to uninstall if there are problems?

The CEP is nothing more than a collection of custom content rolled up
into a set of Haks and a custom talk table. It will have no effect on
any module that has not specifically included (and, thus, requires) CEP.

Thanks. I guess I'll break down and get it now. I'm sure I'm missing out
on a lot. :)

Well, if nothing else, I'm missing out on a lot of mods that require it.
Some of them seem pretty good, and are highly rated.

Yesc Unfortunately when the CEP was created the designers didn't make it
compatible with the PrC Consortium's work which at last count added
approx 30 new prestige classes. This is much more interesting from a
player angle.

So is it a one-or-the-other situation? Can you switch between the two if
they aren't compatible?

Switch? I'm not quite sure what you mean, since these are haks, that
have to be imported into a module. You can't switch between them on the
fly while playing. And they are, in effect, mutually exclusive.

The CEP is mostly a resource for module designers. If a module wasn't
built to include CEP content, then simply adding the haks to that module
won't serve much purpose, unless maybe you really, really want to use
that falchion your character picked up in a CEP module.

The PRC pack allows characters more options, so it's more aimed at
players. It comes with a program to add support for it to any module. It
won't be compatible with some haks, the CEP in particular.

If you download both the PRC pack and the CEP, and install them
normally, you can play any of your modules as normal. They would only
conflict if you deliberately tried to install both in the same module.

I think Brian meant "if you try and create a module using both CEP and
PRC".

If you're just playing, and have both CEP and PRC installed, you won't
notice a thing - your module just goes out to get the right HAK/
resources, whether they be CEP or PRC.

If you're designing a module, you have to decide which to use.

So they are mutually exclusive when creating a module, but when you
play, your module will get the right stuff from one or the other pack
if you have them both installed.

What do you mean by install them in the same module? I'm not sure I
understand the way that's worded. Do you mean try to use a module that
utilizes both?

Thanks, that makes perfect sense. I guess I should get them then, since
there won't be problems. :)

And, they're FREE! Which is why I love NWN and the NWN community!
*Sniff* <wipes tear from eye> 🙂
