Well, I finally got CEP to download; used GetRight to grab it in
chunks, because a s a single download even if things worked perfectly
I couldn't get the whole thing on one cell phone charge.

Anyway, so I ran the thing, it seemed to work perfectly.

Then I started up NWN, went to the demo scenario they included... and
couldn't get it to start up; said it was made with a newer version of
the game than I had. Now I have NWN, SOU and HOTU -and- CEP, at least
in theory. The first three I certainly have, I've done all three
original campaigns plus several downloaded modules that required HOTU.

I tried the -other- module they included, the more or less blank one
that's intended as a starter for building. Same message.

Tried starting several different regular modules, which all work fine,
but which have no new portraits or player races... I'm not sure
there's supposed to be, but if there is, well, its not working.

Tried opening the modules in the toolkit, no dice

Opened a brand new one, activated the CEP.tlk, and found no new
monsters or items or portraits...\

In short, it doesn't seem to have worked, even though it said it did.

Any ideas?

1) have you updated and received the latetest patch (1.62)
2) have you placed the cep files in your hak directory
3) have you place the tlk file in the tlk directory

Have you ever clicked the 'Update' button on your program front page,
Lance? It's wonderfully easy [haven't seen it for other games] and
TOTALLY automated so you don't have to do a thing.

<<< see? CEP.tlk was there in the toolbox when I looked, so I could
select it. Means it has to be in the right folder doesn't it?

Yes

1) Been running 1.62 for months now, downloaded it via the Update
button on the game itself. Also, I've run several modules which say
they require 1.62. CEP is the only thing balking.

2 & 3) The CEP download places the files automatically when run; I
checked and all the hak files seem to have gone into the hak folder,
the tlk file into the tlk folder.

I agree the message I'm getting sounds like I don't have 1.62... I
just don't see how that could be.

The 1.01 patch version of CEP just came out. Try downloading that and
installing it. You might want to download the manual version and extract
the files yourself, just to be sure.

Why don't the CEP protraits work with other modules??

The file with the portaits (cepportrait.hak) doesn't have the necessary data
file portraits.2da inside. You have to put the file cep2da.hak into your hak
list of the module too.
