I just found a report that there are "11 Known Apps that can Cause Windows Update to Fail".

I haven't been able to complete a Feature Update of Win11 since May of 2021.

This is the first I've heard that the presence of certain applications can cause Updates to fail.

I don't have any of the 11 listed apps, but I DO have "EaseUS's" Backup software installed (their "Disk Copy" is on the list.) I'm wondering now if this might be why all my Updates have all failed? (grumble.)

Has anyone else heard anything about this? If this is why I haven't been able to update my computer in nearly 3 years, I'm going to be incredibly pissed. :rage:

Win 11 wasn't formally released until Oct 2021.
What prerelease version are you using?
Not a pre-release. This computer was upgraded from Win10 so that update history date may be going back to it's pre-Win11 days.

I ran the SFC (which found errors) followed by DISM (which failed), rebooted, and am trying to update once again.

I've surpassed by previous high of 9%, so fingers crossed. 😉

fresh os install.
All attempts to reinstall Windows w/o losing my Files/Settings failed.

I kept getting stopped at the "System Compatibility Checker" telling me my Win11 computer did not meet the system requirements. :eyeroll: (and yes, I checked my TPM setting.)

I even tried reinstalling using a USB installer that (supposedly) disabled the Hardware Compatibility Checker, but it STILL kept trying to check my hardware (a Ryzen 5800X and X570-MoBo.)

Every attempt to run Update this past year has failed around 9% (one got as high as 27% before failing.)

Right now, I'm at 73%. Wish me luck.

The "nuclear option" should always be available, even if it's the last resort. Sometimes it's just faster to wipe everything and get back to where you were than to spend countless hours trying to figure out what part of the system needs "fixing" to get it where you want.

Years ago, I had to do with with my spouses system.

Inplace Upgrade from Win 8.1 to 10, it never got the ongoing updates right.

Wipe and reinstall, all is well.

Damn. Failed.

Actually downloaded 100% (after about an hour.

"Installing" got as far as 25% before failing: "Install error - 0xc1900130"

I checked my Update history and the last successful "Feature Update" was May 9, 2021 for "Windows 10".

(Security updates have installed okay..)

I backup my C: drive on the 1st of every month. Only problem is that I use "EaseUS Backup", and "EaseUS Disk Copy" is listed as one of the 11 programs that cause Update to fail.

I'm unsure if uninstalling "EaseUS Backup" and re-attempting a Win11 Update is worth attempting, which is why I was asking if anyone had an additional information as to whether this particular app was a known problem.

Looks like I'll have to try (though I seriously doubt it will help.)

have you tried this?

it fixed my win 11 install when windows update broke itself.

wait, nvm, you need to be on same version as installer and you probably aren't

Yeah, I tried every attempt at reinstalling and nothing worked.

I finally found a solution after posting my question here.

One of MS's Guru's took me through resetting my Boot Partition's physical ID to finally break the deadlock.

Worth taking a look on fixing what seemed like a simple problem.

its fairly rare to get an answer to your question from Microsoft themselves. For the first year after a new install their stock answer is to reinstall the OS. You were lucky.
