GTX 980's = 860$ vs r9 390's 630$
GTX 980's have the 200/400 OC options
390's have the 10/1xx OC options.

Which would be the better option for about 2 years as DX12 and new GPU's come out?

My aim would be 1440p I currently game at 2560x1080 and the next move will be 3440x1440p

980ti is currently the best single card solution, still I would not buy it. The R9 390 is capable of running everything, cheaper, will be faster with dx12, and can work in crossfire in the future. Even better if you have a good gpu right now you can just save money and buy the next gen when they come out in a few months time.

yeah I saw that in old threads when the 980 was 500 but now that it's basically 100 more was wondering if the landscape changed. I also saw a benchmark for a GTX 980ti Matrix that beats 970 SLI? Do you know if that would be a comparable option.
